Big turnouts highlight final two WSOP preliminary events

The final two preliminary tournaments began Tuesday at the 2011 World Series of Poker, and both tournaments saw solid attendance numbers. The penultimate preliminary tournament, a $1,500 No Limit Holdem tourney saw a field of 3,389 players take to the poker tables at the Rio, while the $5k Pot Limit Omaha 8 or better tournament saw its attendance increase by nearly 25% over last year as 352 players registered for the final preliminary tournament of the 2011 WSOP.

In the $1,500 NLHE event 4675 players survived the fast-paced Day 1 action and will reconvene at the Rio on Wednesday:

1. Benjamin Volpe — 156,200

2. David Zemel — 127,700

3. David Eldridge — 118,000

4. Bryn Kenney — 113,000

5. Tyler Patterson — 109,500

6. Brett Jungblut — 100,500

7. Dan Kelly — 99,300

8. Aleksandr Mozhnyakov — 94,800

9. Brandon Meyers — 93,200

10. Simon Lam — 90,100

In the $5k PLO8 tournament 189 players were able to bag up chips at the end of the night:

1. Gary Bolden — 98,300

2. Eric Crain — 96,500

3. Austin Marks — 89,500

4. Juan Caridad — 78,500

5. Max Pescatori — 72,000

6. Alexandre Gomes — 70,400

7. Joe Tehan — 69,500

8. Daniel Fuhs — 66,400

9. Ali Eslami — 64,400

10. Daniel Shak — 62,600
