Boku who is a PokerStars professional has successfully completed his challenge of turning $5 into $100,000 in under a year. Boku did it on his second attempt after losing his first $5 that he deposited. Boku managed to achieve the feat by playing almost 45,000 tournaments in under a year. Hereported that 50% of his winning came from profits on the tournaments and the other 50% actually came from redeeming cash prizes at the PokerStars FPP store.

Boku started the challenge in June 2009 and began by played extremely small stakes tournaments and 2c/4c cash games. Looking at Boku’s graph it is clear that is wasn’t a fluke as it shows a very steady increase over the challenge which proves further poker is not simply a game of luck.

Poker players may remember Boku for winning a 3 to 1 prop bet of turning $10 into $10,000 in just 15 days. Boku played sit and goes under the value of $16 which negated the chance he would try and win with one big score. This caught the imagination of the poker community and it was not long before PokerStars signed Boku as a sponsored professional.

Boku said on his blog “The secret to being successful it to continually try to play, always work on your game and try to improve. If you do this, and if you put in enough hours, you also have the chance to build up a big bankroll.”

It is a nice change to have such a modest player inspire the lower stakes grinders. You don’t have to be playing huge stakes to get the massive wins.
