Brendon Rubie and Dan Kelly victorious at Aussie Millions
With a few days off in between the completion of the opening tournament and the start of Event #2 at the 2012 Aussie Millions, Melbourne has fallen off the poker radar over the past couple days, but with the results from Event #2, an $1,100 PLO tournament, the poker world’s attention will surely shift back to Australia. Here is a recap of the first two tournaments from the 2012 Aussie Millions.
Event #1
Event #1 at the Aussie Millions saw Brendon Rubie battle his way through a fairly anonymous final table in the $1,100 No Limit Holdem tournament. The three starting days for the event saw 946 total entrants, swelling the prize-pool to nearly $1 million, with $200k set aside for the winner of the event.
Here is a look at the final table payouts from Event #1 at the 2012 Aussie Millions:
1. Brendon Rubie — $200,000
2. Scott Wilson — $125,000
3. Rob Angood — $80,000
4. John Thomson — $61,000
5. Tam Truong — $49,000
6. Manny Stavropoulos — $39,000
7. Sherif Derias — $29,000
8. Naz Sibaei — $19,000
Event #2
The final table of Event #2 could very well have been from a High-Roller event, considering ½ of the table was made up of well known poker pros, including Dan “DJK123” Kelly, McLean Karr, and Aussie poker pros Van Marcus and Billy “The Croc” Arygos.
With far fewer entrants than the opening event, the PLO tournament still managed to generate a total prize-pool of $129,000 thanks to the 129 entrants who decided to play the event. The victor at the stacked final table was online poker phenom Dan “DJK123” Kelly, who picked-up the $33k+ first-place prize and got his 2012 Aussie adventure off to a good start.
Here is a look at the final table payouts from Event #2 at the 2012 Aussie Millions:
1. Dan Kelly — $33,400
2. Martin Kozlov — $25,000
3. Van Marcus — $18,050
4. Charles Cuschieri — $14,270
5. Geoffrey Smith — $10,800
6. McLean Karr — $8,250
7. Michael Guzzardi — $6,100
8. Billy Argyros — $4,190
Event #3
The third event at the Aussie Millions was an $1,100 No Limit Holdem Shootout tournament that saw a number of big-name entries (as more and more poker pros head to Australia for the Main Event that is now just days away). The tournament saw its cap of 150 players reached, but only 10 of those players managed to survive the first day of the event; they will now return for Day 2 on Wednesday with the following seat assignments and chip counts:
* Seat 1: Eric Sclavos — 34,000
* Seat 2: Salman Behbehani — 79,500
* Seat 3: Mario Ljubicic — 95,500
