Chris Lee wins first-ever 10-Game Mix event at WSOP
It took an extra day of play due to the Hard-Stop Rule, but Chris “Genius28” Lee was able to best a strong field of 431 players to win the inaugural 10-Game Mix Event at the 2011 World Series of Poker. The new addition to the WSOP lineup tested players in 10 different poker formats: Limit Holdem, No Limit Holdem, Seven Card Stud, Seven Card Stud hi/lo, Razz, Limit Omaha 8, Pot Limit Omaha, No Limit 2-7 Lowball, Limit 2-7 Triple Draw Lowball, and Badugi.
Unlike HORSE tournaments which are skewed in favor of Stud players, a 10-Game mix tests players in a wide variety of formats making it one of the most difficult formats to play. The winner of the 10-Game Mix can truly call himself one of the most well-rounded poker players in the world –even though Lee admitted that, “I’m not actually a mixed game player, I usually just play No Limit Hold’em and Pot Limit Omaha. A lot of these games are new to me and I didn’t go in with high expectations, but I really [ran] good for all four days,”
With a final table that included the likes of John D’Agostino, Shaun Deeb, and runner-up Brian Haveson, Lee definitely needed to bring his A-Game, and this is precisely what the Internet poker pro was able to do on his way to his first notable payday in a live poker tournament.
Here is a look at the final table payouts from Event #29, the $2,500 10-Game Mix tournament:
1. Chris Lee – $254,955
2. Brian Haveson – $157,491
3. Travis Pearson – $101,258
4. Shaun Deeb – $67,146
5. Kendall Fukumoto – $45,839
6. John D’Agostino – $32,200
