Day 3 of Main Event concludes with 852 players
After a day-off on Wednesday, the 2011 World Series of Poker Main Event was back in action on Thursday, and what a wild day it was! The field was cut from 1,864 players down to 852 –639 players will make the money—and the day was full of action, including one of the sickest beats in WSOP history (the beat was so bad it earned its own article which you can read here!).
While plenty of big names are still alive and kicking in the Main Event including Daniel Negreanu, Phil Hellmuth, Vanessa Rousso, Jake Cody, and Ben Lamb, the story of the day –besides Shaun Deeb’s bad beat—was the emergence of the young online poker players in the Main Event, including Steve Gross, David Sands, Sorel Mizzi, Richard Lyndacker, Taylor Caby, Andrew Brokos, Josh Tieman, Darryl Fish, Randall Flowers, and Christian Harder.
Two former WSOP Champions remain in the field, Phil Hellmuth and Robert Varkonyi, and amazingly only two former November Nine members are still alive, Darus Suharto and Joseph Cheong.
Here is a look at the chip-leaders heading into Day 4 of the WSOP Main Event:
1. Patrick Poirier — 1,328,000
2. Daryl Jace — 1,282,500
3. Chris Kwon — 944,500
