Epic Poker League launches Facebook app

Daniel Negreanu’s appearance on the QuadJacks podcast last week is starting to look very sage-like, considering when the discussion turned to the Epic Poker League, he hypothesized that the company was likely positioning itself to offer real-money online poker games if the US ever comes around and legalizes the industry.

Well, on Wednesday we learned that the Epic Poker League has created a Zynga like app for Facebook that allows players to participate in play-money online poker games on the social media network. The Epic Poker League Facebook app now joins Zynga and the WSOP as brands offering play-money games on Facebook –which as we’ve seen from the Zynga financials can be a very lucrative business in its own right!

Negreanu from the outset has questioned the Epic Poker League’s business plan, commenting that he didn’t understand how the Epic Poker League could spend millions of dollars with nothing coming in; which led to him hypothesizing that the company was intent on staking a claim in the online poker market.

The Epic Poker League Facebook app gives players a starting balance of 5,000 play money chips, and is setup exactly like an online poker room –only in flash version– with players selecting a poker table in the lobby from amongst cash games, sit and go tournaments, shootouts, and a VIP tab.

At the time of writing, the Epic Poker League Facebook app has 917 players online, not too bad considering the page has been up for less than 12 hours!
