In the opening week of their 2010 World Series of Poker coverage ESPN focused on the $50,000 Players Championship, which was eventually won by one of the two Mizrachi brothers that made the final table, Mike “The Grinder” Mizrachi.

This week attention will shift to the highly exclusive Tournament of Champions, which took a three year hiatus before the decision was made to bring back the freeroll tournament with $1 million in prize-money up for grabs.

The tournament started with 27 players that included 20 WSOP bracelet winners voted on by the fans; the reigning WSOP and WSOPE Champions Joe Cada and Barry Shulman; all three of the previous TOC winners Annie Duke, Mike Sexton and Mike Matusow; an online qualifier; and a WSOP Academy qualifier Bertrand “ElkY” Grosspelier.

Among the 20 players voted in by the fans were mainstays like Daniel Negreanu, Doyle Brunson, Phil Ivey, Phil Hellmuth, Annie Duke and Johnny Chan.

ESPN’s coverage of the TOC encompasses two episodes; the first will air tonight at 8PM, followed by the finale at 9PM. As usual, poker fans that miss the episode will have a chance to watch reruns throughout the week on both ESPN and ESPN 2.
