Feds seize $8 mil in poker funds in Washington State
Now that the 2006 law making online poker a crime in Washington State has been upheld by the state’s courts, the Department of Justice has wasted little time in cracking down on payment processors who have sent checks and other payments to online poker players in Washington State.
The news appeared in Forbes Magazine –a surprising hotbed of information regarding the federal government’s activity against online poker and online payment processors in recent months—and stated the following:
“According to four civil forfeiture complaints filed in federal court in Seattle since October, federal prosecutors have moved against cash sitting in accounts at Bank of America, JPMorgan Chase & Co., Wells Fargo & Co. and SunTrust Banks, belonging to payment processor firms like Arrow Checks, Secure Money, Etegrity Processing, Anaya Trading Solutions and Blue Lake Capital Management and Logistics.”
Forbes claims that a number of banks were targeted for accepting payments from the above cited processors. The biggest victim of the seizure was Bank of America, which saw $5.1 million seized, and the investigation seems to have revolved around Arrow Checks. The case began in June when a task force officer named William Marik was notified by a witness that he had received a check for his online poker winnings from Arrow Checks. Agents then questioned other online poker players from Washington State who stated that the Arrow Checks were payouts from online poker sites such as Full Tilt Poker, PokerStars, UB Poker, and Absolute Poker.
