Four Poker Experiences every player should Experience
Every poker player has a set of goals and various dreams for their poker career. Many are related to fame and glory and others to money. However, for many of us playing poker is more about the experience and the memories gained during the process. With that said, here are four poker experiences that every player should experience.
Playing at the World Series of Poker
The Granddaddy of all poker series in the world is the World Series of Poker. Every year, both amateur and professional players come out to Las Vegas to take their shot at fame, fortune, and the elusive WSOP gold bracelet.
Doing well at the WSOP for many is a validation of their poker career. For many, just making the money of an event is the highlight of their year. Personally, I have two WSOP cashes in largest Limit Hold’em events of all-time. That is an accomplishment that I am very proud of.
Even without making a dime at the WSOP, players can get a chance to play with the best in the world. The WSOP is one of the few events where you can play with the best in the world and have a punchers chance. Now, with many events starting at just $1,000, you don’t have to be a high roller to take your shot.
The WSOP Main Event
While playing at the WSOP is a highlight of many player’s careers, there is still no event bigger than the WSOP Main Event. The spectacle, the competition, and the money is what drives players to plop down $10,000 every summer.
The Main Event has made average Joes into superstars, and superstars into legends. If you can win your way into this event or find a way to buy-in, you should definitely take your shot. You never know when you might hit your “epic run good” and take away a huge score in this event.
Las Vegas
While not my personal place in the poker world, everyone should at least experience Vegas once. The lights, the show, and the games can be among the juiciest in the world. If you are smart about it, you can also find good deals if you are willing to stay off strip.
If you go to Vegas, don’t just stay on the strip. Head downtown to Fremont Street and experience the casinos of downtown. Also, check out the Fremont Street Experience, a free light and music show available every hour starting at dark.
World Poker Tour Main Event
If you are a serious poker player, then you should try your hand at the World Poker Tour. The WPT brings together the best and brightest in the poker world. Outside of the WSOP bracelet, a WPT title is among the most coveted in poker.
Also, the odds of your playing with the big boys increase exponentially when you play a WPT Main Event as the pros come out in force for the events. With many WPT Main Events dropping in price, earning your way into an event via a satellite should be easier than ever. Go on an epic run, and you can find yourself on TV with Mike Sexton and Vince Van Patten calling all the action.
