Gruissem leads heading into Day 3 of WPT Paris

A total of 228 entrants (some using the reentry format on Day 1b to register twice) was trimmed down to 143 players after the two opening day flights of the World Poker Tour (WPT) Grand Prix de Paris Main Event. Day 2 saw the field reduced down to just 68 players, with high-stakes poker pro Phillip Gruissem leading the way with 280,600 chips.

The remaining players are still a long ways from the money, as the sparsely attended tournament will only pay the top 27 finishers, with €400,000 set aside for the winner. While there are plenty of big names in France, the low turnout is one of the worst in WPT history, made even more troubling by the WPT Grand Prix de Paris’ fortuitous position between the Partouche Poker Tour Main Event which ended this past weekend, and the upcoming World Series of Poker Europe tournament series, which is just down the French countryside in Cannes.

Here is a look at the Top 10 chip counts heading into Day of the WPT Grand Prix de Paris:

1. Philipp Gruissem — 280,600

2. Bryan Colin — 243,300

3. Matt Salsberg — 229,700

4. Juha Helppi — 222,800

5. Giacomo Fundaro — 216,000

6. Mohsin Charania — 196,300

7. Antony Lellouche — 184,500

8. Fabian Quoss — 178,900

9. Andrew Lichtenberger — 178,000

10. Daniel Amara — 175,000

Gruissem isn’t the only big name still alive in the event, as the German is joined by the likes of Juha Helppi, Mohsin Charania, Andrew “luckychewy” Lichtenberger, Faraz Jaka, Peter Jetten, Kyle Julius, David Benyamine, Jason Mercier, Theo Jorgensen, Joe Serock, Erick Cajelais, Tony G, Fabrice Soulier, and Dominick Nitsche.

Here is a look at the official final table payouts for the tournament:

* 1st place: €400,000

* 3rd place: €170,065
