How Isildur1 got his groove back
There hasn’t been a single online poker player in the 10+ year history of the industry that can compare to the ups and downs that Viktor “Isildur1” Blom has gone through over the past three years. Blom started his online poker career by decimating the Euro poker sites which prompted him to take a shot at the nosebleed games on Full Tilt Poker, and from there his life has been a series of ups and downs.
After initially running up his bankroll by some $5 million, Isildur1 found himself down $2 million just as quickly, and was sent back to the Euro sites to rebuild his bankroll –a move he has stated was in part due to his ignorance of the high-stakes US players abilities. Blom’s time at Full Tilt Poker was a golden age of sorts for high-stakes poker, and the action had never been higher or more intense –even when Guy Laliberte was a regular in the nosebleed games—evidenced by Isildur1 having been involved in the 10 largest pots in online poker history!
After his epic three month run at Full Tilt Poker Blom followers made a few periodic sightings afte the young star over the following year, until Blom –whose identity was unknown at the time—got the gift of a lifetime, a sponsorship deal with PokerStars! Since joining PokerStars Blom has been in the black, in the red, back in the black, back in the red, more times than most of us can count, but since Black Friday the young Swedish phenom has been consistently posting winning sessions – and since he has always been able to get the better of his European counterparts this isn’t all that unexpected.
Currently Blom is just a few Big Blinds behind current leader Andreas “Skjervoy” Torbergsen in overall profit for the year on PokerStars, with $310,000 according to highstakesdb.com, but with players like Phil Galfond and Daniel Cates now residing in Canada, Blom will once again have to face his kryptonite: The American high-stakes pros.
UPDATE: Last night Isildur1 went on another heater winning over $140k on the PokerStars tables, and is now the biggest winner on the site for the year. In this latest session Isildur1 was pitted against new Canadian resident Phil “MrSweets28” Galfond, who ended his session with a small win, while Blom’s domination of the other European pros continued.
