Ike Haxton joins PokerStars Team Online
Over the past few days PokerStars has been running an interesting contest for its players, asking them to guess the identity of the newest member of PokerStars Team Online. PokerStars players were given several clues by various Team PokerStars Pros, and on Thursday the site announced that well over 100 players had guessed correctly. Of these correct guesses PokerStars randomly selected 50 people as winners of the contest. Each of the winners of the contest will be sent $50 by PokerStars.
So who was the mystery man that will join the stellar Team Online roster at PokerStars? Well, the answer came on Thursday and it is quite possibly one of the best online poker players in the history of the game, Isaac Haxton. Regarding the signing, Haxton stated, “I’m excited for the new opportunities this partnership brings. I’m not just playing for myself now – I’m representing a team and a brand. That brings new opportunities and new responsibilities,” adding, “I want to make Supernova Elite in 2012 playing mostly heads-up Sit & Go’s. I also want to learn Pot Limit Omaha and play some heads-up No Limit Hold’em cash matches.”
Haxton poker skills have been on display both live and online ever since he burst onto the poker scene in 2007, finishing second at the PokerStars PCA Main Event. Since then Ike has been one of the most profitable cash-game players at the online poker tables, and is considered one of the best heads-up No Limit Holdem players in the game.
The US resident moved to Malta after Black Friday to continue plying his trade, and now he will not only dominate the online poker tables at PokerStars, he will do so as a member of the site’s Team Online. Haxton has never won a major tournament, finishing second at the PCA as well as at the $40k buy-in 40th Anniversary tournament at the WSOP in 2009, but he does have over $4 million in live tournament winnings in his career.
In more recent times Haxton has been seen competing against Viktor “Isildur1” Blom in the PokerStars Superstar Showdown matches, and then a follow-up Challenge Match where Blom bested Haxton for $500,000. These matches with Isildur1 (Haxton was the only pro who seemed capable of consistently defeating the young Swede in these matches) took Haxton’s reputation from High-Stakes grinder, to heads-up No Limit legend, and were likely a driving force behind his addition to Team Online.
