For the third timed in the past three years Matt Matros has won a World Series of Poker bracelet, after winning the $1,500 No Limit Holdem 6-Max tournament on Saturday. Matros is a longtime tournament poker player who burst onto the poker scene in the early years of the poker boom with a 3rd place finish in the 2004 WPT Championship –a run that was turned into a poker book by Matros—had gone nearly a decade before picking up his first major tournament win, and now, just two years later Matros has three WSOP bracelets.

In 2010 Matros won the $1,500 Limit Holdem tournament at the WSOP, pocketing $189,870. In 2011 Matros scored his second WSOP bracelet with a win in the $2,500 Mixed Holdem event, worth $303,501. Yesterday’s victory was Matros’ largest score since his improbable run in the WPT Championship (which gave him his largest cash to date at $706,903) as the New Yorker won $454,835.

Nine players were still in contention for the title entering Saturday’s action, and it was likely the toughest lineup Matros has ever faced at a final table, considering Mike Matusow, Matt Glantz, and Mark Radoja were among the final nine. Glantz and Matusow would be eliminated fairly early on during the day, and in the end it would be the two most well-known and experienced players battling for the bracelet as Matros took on Mark Radoja.

After beginning the heads-up battle virtually tied in chips, Radoja built up a strong lead before Matros battled back. After squaring the match once again Matros went on to eliminate Radoja in about thirty minutes of play.

This was Radoja’s third cash at the 2012 World Series of Poker, after winning his first gold bracelet last year in the $5,000 NLHE Shootout event.

With Andy Bloch capturing his first WSOP bracelet earlier in the 2012 WSOP, Matt Glantz is now one of the first names mentioned when people are asked; who is the best poker player without a bracelet? Glantz now has 21 career WSOP cashes and eight Top 10 finishes.
