Morteza is Dusk Till Dawn Grand Prix Winner
Seven days of great poker action came to an end yesterday, at the Dusk Till Dawn Poker Club in Nottingham, when Morteza Sheykhel Islam was declared the winner of the record breaking Grand Prix. In all there were 1,564 players registered to take part, just 36 short of the 1,600 guarantee, making it not only the largest ever field in the UK, but the largest ever field
in Europe! The event started last Monday with the first Day One, and five days later the tournament resumed on Saturday with 376 players, with an average stack of 41,595 chips. After a long days play on Saturday the field was reduced to just 18 players, all of whom returned on Sunday for the tournaments climax. In total 153 players received prize money with the final 18 players guaranteed at least €548, a sum which was 11 times the buy-in. After just four levels play the final table started and the final nine started battle for the first prize of €17,810. They were soon whittled down to just three and a deal was completed guaranteeing each player at least €10,000 each, and it was not long until the final two players were decided. Morteza was joined by Anthony Fox and the pair agreed a chop deal with each player taking home €12,000, but play continued to decide the winner. That was Morteza, who comes from
Coventry, and he was declared the winner of the Grand Prix. Dusk Till Dawn are already making plans to beat their own record with the announcement of the next Grand Prix being a re-entry event. The buy-in will remain the same but with the option of re-entry they plan on catering for a total of 5,000 players. The event will have a €250,000 guarantee and is scheduled for the end of August, with online satellites commencing next week, Monday 30th, with tournaments starting at just €2.
