NBC will still air Heads-Up Poker Championship

With all of the poker programming that has been pulled from the airwaves over the past week it’s good to see that some shows will remain for all of us die-hard poker enthusiasts. With PokerStars NAPT being pulled from ESPN, as well as FOX pulling the PokerStars.net Big Game and PokerStars.net Million Dollar Challenge the televised poker schedule has been pretty sparse as of late, fortunately the NBC National Heads-Up Poker Championship will continue to air this weekend, despite a number of PokerStars and Full Tilt Poker pros populating the tables.

There is no word yet if NBC will edit out references to the two indicted sites, or how they will handle the advertising that has been purchased. However, my guess is they will follow in High Stakes Poker’s footsteps and cancel all Full tilt poker and PokerStars advertising, and will likely black out all logos from the two poker rooms, as well as Absolute Poker and UB Poker –one long-shot possibility is that they replace the FullTilt.net logo with the new www.fulltiltpoker.co.uk poker site.

This week’s broadcast is scheduled for two hours with Doyle Brunson against Jennifer Tilly and “Seinfeld” actor Jason Alexander against Liv Boeree as the featured match-ups. It will be interesting to see how NBC deals with Doyle Brunson, and his Doyles Room patches and hat, considering the site was not named in the recent indictments even though it also skirts current US gaming laws. This could provide insight into how poker programming will progress from here on out as this will be the first appearances by some of these players since PokerStars Full Tilt shut down US players.
