Phil Ivey continues to shine on High Stakes Poker

Not many people would consider 5-betting a 5-2 off-suit, but then again those players are not Phil Ivey! And when Phil 5-bet poker pro Andrew Robl with 5-2 he took down an uncontested $70,000 pot. A move host Gabe Kaplan called, “One of the greatest bluffs in the history of High Stakes Poker.” And this is one of those rare times when an announcer isn’t just spicing up the telecast; Ivey’s bluff was one of the best bluffs in the shows 6-year history.

The entire episode was filled with bluffs –including Dennis Phillips moving Tom Dwan off the best hand– and while nobody went busto the episode was one of the more exciting in quite some time.

Next week’s episode will see a few of the usual suspects with Daniel Negreanu, Doyle Brunson, Eli Elezra and Phil Ivey along with Tom ‘durrrr’ Dwan, Bertrand Grospellier, David Benyamine and Mike Matusow. The previews included a little back-and-forth between Mike Matusow and Doyle Brunson, along with a visibly frustrated Daniel Negreanu taking out his frustrations on the poker table. With the highly aggressive Ivey, Dwan and Grosspieller along with a full complement of long-time high-stakes pros, there definitely could be some major fireworks in next week’s episode.
