Poker Champion Peter Eastgate loses $1.7 million betting sports

In a recent interview with a Danish Newspaper, 2008 World Series of poker Champion Peter Eastgate told the newspaper Politiken that he has lost in the neighborhood of $1.7 million betting on sports, mostly at last year’s World Cup in South Africa –which Eastgate even skipped the WSOP in favor of attending the World Cup; now we know why! Maybe he should have taken tips from prediction websites like MLB Predictions.

Eastgate told the paper he has basically sworn off sports-betting, and even has a $20,000 prop-bet with friends that states he will owe $20,000 if he bets more than $2,000 in sports –so apparently sports-betting is off limits for the young Danish Champion, but prop-betting is still a viable outlet! Oh, the duality of the professional poker player!

Eastgate recently returned to poker after a 9 month hiatus. In May of 2010 Eastgate announced his retirement from poker, was later dropped by PokerStars, and finished up 2010 by auctioning off his 2008 WSOP Championship bracelet for charity. Then two weeks ago we learned Eastgate would be returning to the poker tables at the recently concluded EPT Copenhagen, and would also be taking part in the NBC National Heads-Up Poker Championship.

Eastgate has even salvaged his relationship with PokerStars, and the site is sponsoring him for the NBC National Heads-Up Poker Championship, as well as having sponsored him in the EPT Copenhagen Main Event.
