PokerStars Sunday Million turns 5
On Sunday, March 6, 2011 the largest weekly online poker tournament will celebrate its fifth birthday as the PokerStars Sunday Million hosts a special tournament in honor of its 5-year anniversary. To celebrate the achievement PokerStars will more than triple the usual guaranteed prize-pool of $1.5 million, offering up a massive $5 million guarantee that will see the winner walk away with at least $1 million, as well as a brand new Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4!
With an average field of 7,070 players, the 5th Anniversary tournament will need to attract over 23,000 entrants to eclipse its guarantee. The buy-in for the special Sunday Million tournament will remain at $215, and could challenge –and will likely beat—the record for the largest Sunday Million tournament in the history of the event which took place on February, 21, 2010, and saw 36,169 players enter the tournament. The total prize-pool of that Sunday Million eclipsed $7.2 million.
The very first Sunday Million poker tournament was played on March 6th, 2006, and was won by a player from Massachusetts using the screen-name ‘aaaaaaaa’, who bested a field of 5,893 runners. The total prize-pool for the inaugural Sunday Million was $1,178,600.
The tournament is slated to begin at 16:30 ET Sunday, March 6, 2011. For more information on the 5th anniversary of the Sunday Million, or for a satellite schedule you can visit PokerStars.com’s Sunday Million anniversary page.
