Randy “Nanonoko” Lew captures APT Macau Championship
The Macau poker scene is best known for the ultra-high-stakes cash-games that take place in what has become known as the Las Vegas of the Near East, but there is also a major poker tournament that is the genesis of those high-stakes poker games, the APT Macau Main Event, and in 2011 it was online poker legend Randy “nanonoko” Lew who would hoist the APT Macau trophy.
Randy Lew may not be a household name in the poker world, but in the online poker world the man who goes by the screen-name “nanonoko” is one of the best and most feared poker players in the world. And now Lew can add a major live tournament title to his already impressive online resume which includes being one of the most prolific multi-table cash-game players on the Internet.
Lew wouldn’t have a cakewalk by any means, as two other well-known players also graced the final table lineup in Macau, David Steike (who would be eliminated early on in the final table), and 3rd place finisher in the 2011 Aussie Millions Jeff Rossiter (who matched his 3rd place finish in Australia with a 3rd place finish in Macau).
Steicke has had a phenomenal 2011 tournament campaign, recently coming in 2nd place at stop #2 on the Epic Poker League ($500k) as well as a 4th place finish in the $100k high-roller tournament at the 2011 Aussie Millions. Overall Steicke has pocketed over $2.6 million for his career, including nearly $1 million in 2011 alone.
Lew was very active on the live tournament trail earlier this year, and seemed to be trying to transition to live poker –even appearing on the PokerStars.net Big Game. However, after just missing the final table of the 2011 Aussie Millions (Lew finished in 10th place) he only managed a few small cashes at the 2011 WSOP before his big win in Macau. We’ll have to wait and see if the win propels Lew into the live tournament scene, or if he goes back to his more familiar stomping grounds at the online poker tables.
The win netted Lew HKD$3,772,000 (or just under $500k USD) by far his biggest live tournament payday at this point in his career –Lew has pocketed millions at the online poker tables in his brief career according to highstakesdb.com.
Here is a look at the final table payouts for the 2011 APT Macau Main Event:
1. Randy Lew — HKD$3,772,000
2. Jimmy Pan — HKD$2,367,000
