Steury overcomes tough field to win WSOP HORSE bracelet

Mixed Games have come a long over the past few years, evidenced by the nearly 1,000 entrants in the $1,500 HORSE tournament; a tournament that in 2008 attracted just over 800 participants and wasn’t even on the schedule in 2007!

With more and more players starting to branch out into other poker disciplines it shouldn’t come as a surprise that the winner of the $1,500 HORSE tournament at the 2011 World Series of Poker wasn’t some grizzled veteran of the poker world, but was instead 24 year-old Aaron Steury of Indiana.

At the final table Steury had to contest with the likes of Victor Ramdin (one of the hottest players in poker at the moment), David Baker (not David “Bakes” Baker, the other one), and his heads-up opponent for the bracelet Michael Chow.

Steury’s win marked the 16th time in seventeen events that a WSOP bracelet went to a first-time recipient at the 2011 WSOP; only John Juanda’s victory in the $10k No Limit 2-7 Lowball Championship bucked the trend, with Juanda picking up his fifth WSOP bracelet.

Here is a look at the complete final table payouts from the $1,500 HORSE tournament at the WSOP:

1. Aaron Steury – $289,283

2. Michael Chow – $178,691

3. Adam Friedman – $121,437

4. Jonathan Tamayo – $84,516

5. Ron Ware – $60,036

6. Dennis Ethier – $43,512

7. David Baker – $32,150

8. Paolo Compagno $24,219

9. Victor Ramdin – $18,577
