US poker crackdown continues as more indictments unsealed
Although not on the same level, and far less surprising, as the indictments handed down against Full Tilt Poker, PokerStars, and Absolute/UB Poker on April 15, 2011, on Monday May 23, we learned of 10 more online gaming sites that saw their domain names seized by the Department of Justice, including two online poker rooms, True Poker and Doyles Room.
These latest developments in the ongoing struggle between the US Government and the offshore online gaming providers was not from the usual online gaming protagonist –the US Attorney Office in the Southern District of New York—instead the indictments were made by the US Attorney Office in Maryland, who conducted a nearly 2-year long undercover operation into two companies, BetEd and BMX Entertainment, the former a gaming provider, the latter a payment processor.
The proceedings on Monday were basically a déjà vu moment for the poker world, as visitors to the websites were greeted with the DOJ and FBI logos and a written message, while the sites themselves found their bank accounts frozen in addition to the indictments.
In a statement released on Monday, the US Attorney Office indicted a total of three people in two separate indictments:
“ThrillX Systems, Ltd., d/b/a BetEd; Darren Wright; and David Parchomchuk, both of British Columbia, Canada are charged in one indictment. K23 Group Financial Services, d/b/a BMX Entertainment; and Ann Marie Puig, age 35, of San Jose, Costa Rica are charged in a second indictment.”
In addition to Doyles Room and True Poker the other sites named in the indictment include Bookmaker.com, 2Betsdi.com, Funtimebingo.com. Goldenarchcasino.com, Betmaker.com, Betgrandesports.com, Betehorse.com, and Beted.com.
