Yesterday we brought you the news about Warren Wooldridge and his quest for a WSOP bracelet. Well Event 54 has now come to a close, and while Wooldridge failed to win an elusive bracelet he improved on his overnight position of sixth to eventually finish third and claim $288,946.

It was always going to be a difficult ask for Warren today, as the chip leader Maxim Lykov had a third of the chips in play when play resumed. It was a lead that he never relinquished and he became the third Russian at this years event to claim a bracelet, and he is now two thirds of the way to completing the Triple Crown as he already holds a European Poker Tour title.

With five players remaining Wooldridge made his move. First of all he doubled up courtesy of Lykov, and then he knocked out the Norwegian Harald Olsen which put him in third place. Once Zhang was eliminated in fourth play quietened down until Wooldridge and Lykov went head to head. Wooldridge had AJ against his opponents A9, but the flop came down in favour of the Russian player with a nine of hearts. The turn and river were of no use and Wooldridge was gone. A great performance from the Englishman and one that he can be extremely proud of. The final table placings and payouts are listed below.
