Wilcocks takes huge lead into APPT final table

The final day of the PokerStars.net APPT Melbourne Main Event will kick off with local player Phillip Wilcocks beginning with a huge chip-lead for the second straight day. Yesterday Wilcocks sat atop the final 37 players with a 770k to 452k chip advantage, and heading into the final table Wilcocks managed to extend that lead as he has a nearly 2-to-1 chip lead on his closest competitor.

While it’s not uncommon for a player to pull ahead the rest of the field one day, Wilcocks domination over the last two days is something you rarely see in poker at any level, never mind seeing it in a $5,000 buy-in major tournament!

With the final nine players all hailing from Australia and New Zealand, some of the best talent from the area was represented in the field, but with the likes of Tony Hachem, James Obst, and Keiran Harris all falling on Day 3 the one big name still in the running is Australian poker pro Van Marcus who will enter the final table as one of the short-stacks, sitting on 346k chips.

Here is a look at the chip counts for the final nine players in the APPT Melbourne Main Event:

1. Phillip Willcocks — 2,317,000

2. Leo Boxell — 1,170,000

3. Phares Bouya — 910,000

4. Michael Frydman — 741,000

5. William Jones — 730,000

6. Jackson Zheng — 640,000

7. Julius Colman — 513,000

8. Van Marcus — 346,000

9. Eddie Mascardi — 335,000
