As Season X of the World Poker Tour kicks into gear the tour is getting ready to head stateside for some of the biggest events on the schedule. With a stop in Barcelona, Spain in late May and another stop in the far flung poker destination of Slovenia out of the way the WPT is now heading to Los Angeles for one of the longest running tournament series on the WPT schedule, the Legends of Poker.

The Legends of Poker tournament series began on July 28, but the $3,500 buy-in Main Event is not set to begin until August 25. Last year 462 players registered for the Legends of Poker Main Event which featured a $5,000 buy-in at the time. The eventual winner was Andy Frankenberger who would go on to be named the WPT Player of the year –thanks to a 5th place finish at the Festa al Lago Main Event and 16th place showing at the Five Diamond World Poker Classic. Frankenberger would go on to win his first WSOP bracelet at the 2011 WSOP in a $1,500 buy-in NLHE tournament that saw the rising star pocket nearly $600k for the win. Frankenberger pocketed $750,000 for his WPT Legends of Poker win in 2010, his largest cash to date.

Attendance should see a dramatic increase with the reduction of the buy-in amount; a similarly priced WPT tournament, the Borgata Poker Open, has seen over 1,000 players register since lowering their buy-in to $3,500. And with so many out of work online poker players in Las Vegas and LA, it’s likely attendance would have been up even without the lowered buy-in amount.

After the Legends of Poker, the WPT will make a quick respite back to Europe, this time for the €7,500 buy-in Grand Prix de Paris Main Event from September 5-10. The Grand Prix de Paris has been a staple on the tour since Season II. Paris will be followed by a trip to the Borgata in Atlantic City for the $3,500 buy-in Main Event from September 18-23.

Later stops on Season X include the WPT Malta, the World Poker Finals at Foxwoods in Connecticut, the WPT Amneville in France, the WPT Jacksonville in Florida, the WPT Marrakech in Morocco, the WPT Prague in the Czech Republic, and the Five Diamonds World Poker Classic at the Bellagio.
