Friday at the World Series of Poker probably looked something like an AARP convention for anyone walking by as over 4,000 Seniors (over 50 in the poker world) took to the tables to play in the Senior’s Tournament. The massive field set multiple records and I’m still trying to get some confirmation on a possible controversy from the tournament.

Also at the 2012 WSOP, we had our first One Drop casualty as a big name player had to pull out of the event, and I’ll take a look at the man who is quite possibly the best Limit Holdem tournament player in the game today.

Seniors Tournament sets records

Friday saw the Seniors $1,000 NLHE Event kick-off and the 4,128 entrants set two records: Obviously it was the largest Seniors Event in WSOP history, but it also broke the record for the largest field to play in an event on any single day.

Ageism???

Still unconfirmed is the possible entry of several players under the age of 50 in the event who were citing Ageism as a reason for them to be allowed to play. As soon as I get confirmation one way or another I’ll be sure to update you.

Brock Parker: Limit Holdem God

Brock Parker is well-known in Limit Holdem circles (He plays online under the moniker T-Soprano) and you would assume that with two WSOP bracelets he would also be a well-known quantity amongst casual poker fans. Alas, Parker remains fairly anonymous despite a tremendous track-record at the WSOP since 2004.

Parker has 9 Top 10 finishes since 2004, including his two bracelets in 2009, with most of his work coming in Limit Holdem events.

Tony G pulls out of One Drop to Coach Lithuanian Basketball Team

While the big story would seem to be Tony G forfeiting his $100,000 deposit to play in the Big One for One Drop tournament, in my mind the zaniest part of the story was the reason: Apparently Tony G is the coach of the Lithuanian men’s Basketball Team according to PokerNews.com!
