Jake Cody

Jake Cody – One of the Brightest Upcoming Stars of Poker

Although comparatively new to the world of poker, Jake Cody has earned a place for himself among the world’s best poker players. With one bracelet, one final table and one money finish in the World Series of Poker (WSOP), one title, one final table and one money finish in the World Poker Tour (WPT) and one title, one final table and three money finishes in the European Poker Tour (EPT), Jake Cody is definitely one of the brightest rising stars of poker.

Early Years

jake cody pokerBeing comparatively new on the professional poker circuit, not much is known about the early years of this twenty two years old upcoming poker star. He was born and brought up in Rochdale in the UK. He started playing online poker at the age of 15 under the screen name of neverbluff67. He claims that after an initial deposit of $10 at PartyPoker, he has never had to make another deposit and has been playing with the profits.

After graduating from high school Jake joined the Manchester College to study psychology, but soon it became difficult to concentrate on both a thriving poker career and studies. So at the age of 18, in spite of opposition from his parents, Jake dropped out of the college to become a professional poker player. Jake dedicated the next two years of his life towards understanding the game better and improving his skills. He played almost twelve hours everyday and tried to read up on poker theories and other books on the subject at night. His already impressive poker stats indicate that his hard work is paying rich dividends.

Poker Career

The April 2009 Grosvenor UK Poker tournament was the first live poker event in which Jake made a small cash in a side event.  He also managed to cash at the first UKIPT (UK and Ireland Poker Tour) in December 2009 at Galway. Jake took the poker world by a storm by defeating around 768 players and winning the main event at the 5000 Euro European Poker Tour at Deauville to take home 857,000 euro. After this, apart from some cashes at the UKIPT, Jake had an unremarkable time on the poker tournament circuit for a short time. But he changed this soon. He managed to defeat Nichlas Mattsson from Sweden in the Palm Beach Casino 5000 euro buy-in event for the first prize of 273,783 euros.

He won the World Poker Tour title at London in August 2010. This marked the completion of second phase of poker’s Triple Crown for him. He has been named the Rookie of the Year and the Poker Player of the Year in recognition of his achievements in the field of poker at the European Poker Awards. But Jake was unable to make an appearance at the awards ceremony, which was held on the 13th of February at Paris’s Aviation Club de France, as he was participating in an event. The event was UKIPT 1,500 euro High Roller tournament at which he managed to defeat Dave Ulliott and take home 34,200 euro and the title.

Jake managed to earn a place in the poker history by winning his first World Series of Poker bracelet on the 4th of June this year and completing the third and final phase for the Triple Crown. On just his second bracelet event participation, Jake managed to take home a bracelet by outlasting all other players in the $25000 buy-in heads up No Limit Hold’em event at the 2011 WSOP.

Apart from Jake, only three other poker players have succeeded in winning all three: a European Poker Tour Championship, a World Poker Tour Championship and a World Series of Poker bracelet. At the age of 22, Jake Cody is the youngest player to have won Triple Crown. He also holds the record of bagging the Triple Crown in the shortest time, just 16 moths. With live poker tournament earnings already exceeding $3.4 million, expectations are high for this young player.
