pokerstars in NJPokerStars, the largest online poker site worldwide, is due to make its long-awaited return to the US in January 2016 when it launches its new online poker room in New Jersey.

The New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement (DGE) effectively granted their approval to the new partnership between PokerStars’ parent company Amaya and the land-based New Jersey casino, Resorts AC – a move which allowed PokerStars to return to business in the USA. “We are very pleased to add New Jersey to the long list of regulated markets that have found PokerStars and Full Tilt suitable to offer real-money online gaming,” stated the CEO of Amaya, David Baazov.

PokerStars has not been available to US players since before Black Friday in 2011, whereby the company withdrew from the United States. Legal boundaries were set in 2013 to allow online gambling and poker within New Jersey, with the pre-requisite being that the online casino must also have or be partnered with a U.S. operated land casino. Real money poker action will only be accessible to players if they are visiting or living within the state of New Jersey.

Under the new laws, PokerStars established a $10 million poker room in the Resorts Casino in New Jersey. Players in the state will be able to make live deposits and withdrawals at Resorts for both PokerStars NJ and Full Tilt NJ.

The agreement was made between Amaya and Resorts casino in 2013, but there were a number delays to the process, such as stipulations requiring PokerStars to sever ties with some previous employees who failed to show the required “good character”, as well as further software testing of the new site and the requirement for PokerStars to return pre-Black Friday unclaimed balances for previous customers. These factors are believed to have been finalised however and the site is hoped to be fully up and running by January.
