Full Tilt and PokerStars leave US market AP stays
As the fallout from Friday’s news that the DOJ and FBI had shutdown and seized the domain names of the four largest online poker rooms in the United States continued to roll throughout the night, both Full Tilt Poker and PokerStars both made the decision to leave the US market for the time being.
In addition to their official statements regarding the situation as a whole, both sites also released the following statements regarding US players on their site:
Full Tilt’s statement read thusly: “Unfortunately, as a result of this action, Full Tilt Poker has decided that it must suspend “real money” play in the United States until this case is resolved. However, Full Tilt Poker will continue to provide peer-to-peer online poker services outside of the United States.”
While PokerStars released the following statement: “As you may have heard, we have had to suspend real money poker services to players based in the U.S. due to recent legal developments there,”
As of now Absolute/UB Poker has not issued any statement on the proceedings, and at this time they are still offering real-money online poker games to US residents. A number of news outlets have used an older quote from Absolute Poker from when UIGEA was enacted in 2006, which some have mistakenly attributed to the current indictments. The statement from Absolute Poker back in 2006–“the U.S. Congress has no control over” the company’s payment transactions—is not in relation to Friday’s revelations.
Update: UB/AP have now pulled out of the US market aswell.
