Nominations for 2012 Women in Poker Hall of Fame begin

The Women in Poker Hall of Fame has just opened-up the nomination process for the 2012 inductees to the already prestigious Hall of Fame that was founded in 2008. In its four year history the WiPHOF has historically inducted three or four individuals –the 2008 inaugural class featured four women, and in 2009, 2010, and 2011 three women were inducted each year.

According to their website,, poker fans can submit their nominees by filling out a quick form with your name, E-Mail and who your nominee is. The Women in Poker Hall of Fame is asking that anyone nominating someone for the WiPHOF follow the criteria for induction:

1. A candidate must have been active as a player or industry leader for a minimum of 10 years prior to election and 35 yrs of age or older.

2. Player/industry leader must have contributed to the world of poker in some significant way. This person can qualify by either winning major poker tournaments, or by making significant contributions to the industry of poker.

3. Player/industry leader must be a proponent of women in poker.

4. All nominees must be approved by a committee of the Board of Directors and the Inductees.

5. Nominees must agree to terms & conditions of the Women in Poker Hall of Fame.

Here is a look at the current inductees in the WiPHOF:

* The Class of 2008 – Marsha Waggoner, Susie Isaacs, Linda Johnson, and Barbara Enright

* The Class of 2009 – Cyndi Violette, Jan Fisher, and June Field

* The Class of 2010 – Kathy Liebert, Jen Harman, and Billie Brown

* The Class of 2011 – Kristy Gazes, Margie Heintz, and Phyllis Caro

The induction ceremony will take place on August 31, 2012 at the Golden Nugget Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada. Going by previous years, the nomination process will eventually be whittled down to five or so nominees before the Class of 2012 is chosen by a selected panel.

Here is a look at some of the deserving female players that are potential candidates for induction in 2012:

* JJ Liu (previous finalist)

* Nani Dollison (previous finalist)

* Annie Duke

* Mimi Tran

* Karina Jett

* Lucy Rokach

In my opinion Karina Jett is the most deserving player on this list considering her accomplishments as well as for her work in the industry both in hosting tournaments in Las Vegas and charity events.

Second on my list would be Lucy Rokach, considered by many to be the first and one of the best female players in Europe. Rokach has 29 tournament victories on her resume.

Duke would likely already be in the WiPHOF if it wasn’t for her reputation and association with UB Poker and now the failed Epic Poker League.
