The World Poker Tour released the remainder of its Season XI schedule for 2018 and there were a few surprises. Before we take a look at what’s missing, let us look at some of the featured stops for 2018.

The WPT has confirmed that it will be making stops at Commerce, Thunder Valley, Fallsview, Borgata and Seminole Hard Rock as these events were well attended last year and saw nearly 5,500 poker pros register and close to $23 million in guaranteed prize money. WPT CEO Adam Pliska stated that the company was happy to return to these world-class locations and expected even better results in 2018.

Bay 101 Shooting Star Missing

Poker pros who have attended the WPT for years have gone accustomed to seeing Bay 101 Shooting Star feature on the list as the event was introduced in Season 2 of the WPT and has done very well for the company over the years. Bay 101 Shooting Star ran as a bounty event and initially started out with $5,300 in prize money. The first event was won by Phil Gordon who beat 242 players and won $360,000 in prize money. The popularity of the bounty event saw it rise to $10,000 in prize money before being reduced and settling at $7,500.

Sam Panzica won the last edition of the Bay 101 Shooting Star and took home $1.4 million in prize money. He would also go on to challenge for the WPT Player of the Year in 2016. The WPT has not mentioned the Bay 101 Shooting Star event in 2018 and has so far not provided any reason for dropping the event.

California Swing Promo Dropped

The WPT introduced the special California Swing Promo to encourage players to attend three of its popular events held in the state of California. The WPT initially hosted two events in California namely the L.A Poker Classic, Bay 101 Shooting Star before introducing the WPT Rolling Thunder in 2014. The WPT launched its California Swing promotion which was a prize package that gave players travel and hotel accommodation along with a buy-in for a WPT event.

The WPT California Swing Promo was won last year by Rainer Kempe who received a buy-in for the California Swing in Season 16. Since Bay 101 Shooting Star does not feature on the WPT schedule, the California Swing promo will also be dropped and Kempe will most likely get a buy-in to one of the other WPT events.

WPT Season 16 Events

The WPT has confirmed seven events for the first half of 2018 and they are the €3,300 WPT European Championship which runs from Jan 10-15; $3,500 WPT Lucky Hearts Poker Open which runs from Jan 19-24; the $3,500 WPT Borgata Winter Poker Open which takes place from Jan 28-Feb 2; the CA$5,000 WPT Fallsview Poker Classic which runs from Feb 10-12; the $10,000 WPT L.A. Poker Classic which runs from Feb 24-March 1; the $3,500 WPT Rolling Thunder which runs from March 2-6 and the $3,500 WPT Seminole Hard Rock Poker Showdown which runs from April 13-18.
