10 finalists for 2011 Poker Hall of Fame announced

The public voting stage of the 2011 Poker Hall of Fame induction process is now complete, and it is now on to the next step; where the Top 10, eligible, vote-getters will be voted on by a select group of 17 men and women from the poker media as well as the 18 living members of the Poker Hall of Fame.

The eligibility has been tweaked since last year, with the notable addition of a minimum age requirement –known as the Chip Reese rule. Here is a look at the criteria used to determine a person’s eligibility, and that guides the panels vote, for the Poker Hall of Fame:

* A player must have played poker against acknowledged top competition

* Be a minimum of 40 years old at time of nomination [known as the “Chip Reese” rule, adopted in 2011, 20 years after Reese’s induction at age 40]

* Played for high stakes

* Played consistently well, gaining the respect of peers

* Stood the test of time

* Or, for non-players, contributed to the overall growth and success of the game of poker, with indelible positive and lasting results

Here is a look at the Top 10 vote-getters who are eligible for to be inducted into the 2011 Poker Hall of Fame –only the Top 2 vote getters will be inducted. The players are listed in alphabetical order and not by the number of votes they received from the public.

* JENNIFER HARMAN-TRANIELLO

* LINDA JOHNSON

* JOHN JUANDA

* MARCEL LUSKE

* JACK McCLELLAND

* TOM McEVOY

* SCOTTY NGUYEN

* HUCKLEBERRY SEED

One of the more interesting nominees to make the cut is the Stud Poker specialist Marcel Luske, who becomes the first European to make the fan voting cut.
