2011 Poker Hall of Fame inductees announced
With a stellar list of potential candidates the 35 Poker Hall of Fame voters had a tough task on their hands, and in the end the group settled on two of the most highly respected people in poker to join the 38 other poker players who have been honored over the past 32 years as Poker Hall of Fame members.
In a year where resentment for players with ties to troubled online poker sites ran high (one voter, Dan Cypra, stated he would not vote for anyone with any type of affiliation with either Full Tilt Poker or Absolute/UB Poker) it was almost a matter of fact that a contributor would be inducted, with Linda Johnson and Jack McClelland among the likely choices. One of the two nominees, Linda Johnson, was able to reap those rewards and will join Barbara Enright as the only females in the Poker hall of Fame –both are also members of the Women in Poker Hall of Fame.
Johnson will join Barry Greenstein on the stage November 8th, 2011 as the pair is inducted into the Poker Hall of Fame. Greenstein is considered one of the top high-stakes poker players of all-time, and has also been one of the most charitable players in the game, earning him the nickname “The Robin Hood of Poker”.
Johnson’s poker accomplishments go far beyond her 1997 World Series of Poker bracelet, as “The First Lady of Poker” has been an integral part of the poker world for decades, first as a player, then as a founder of Card Player Magazine, she helped get the WPT off the ground, and also created the Tournament Directors Association (TDA).
Congratulations to two very worthy inductees.
