2011 WSOP ME attendance rebounds on Day 1c

After the first two starting days of the 2011 World Series of Poker Main Event saw sluggish attendance totals –that’s putting it nicely—it was starting to look like the US government’s crackdown on online poker would have a significant impact on the 2011 WSOP… Until Day 1c rolled around and more than doubled the total attendance for the Main Event.

With 897 players registering on Day 1a, and 985 showing up for Day 1b, the WSOP Main Event was on pace for the lowest attendance since 2004, but after a massive field of 2,181 players showed up at the Rio on Saturday the WSOP Main Event is back on track to pass the 6,000 entrant mark, and could conceivably end up as the third highest attendance in WSOP history.

With a slightly better turnout on Day 1d the 2011 WSOP Main Event will end up with around 6,500 entrants, far more than most experts predicted prior to the WSOP, and even though the preliminary events at the 2011 WSOP saw an attendance increase there was still quite a lot of uncertainty surrounding the WSOP Main Event attendance, which has relied on the online poker sites to send thousands of qualifiers to Las Vegas over the years.

Should Day 1d shoot attendance to around 6,500 the World Series of Poker will have put itself into a class of its own when it comes to poker, basically immune to virtually all outside influences in the poker world.
