2012 PokerStars WCOOP begins on Sunday
Three $10k buy-in events; a $5,200 buy-in Main Event with a million-dollar prize guaranteed to the winner; the Player of the Series leader-board; and a total of 65 tournaments in 22 days, with at least $30 million up for grabs… Welcome to the 2012 PokerStars World Championship of Online Poker (WCOOP)!
The WCOOP is the biggest tournament series in online poker, and it kicks off this Sunday, September 2, with three events: a $215 6-Max NLHE tournament, a $10,300 High-Roller tournament, and another $215 NLHE tournament.
Last year the PokerStars WCOOP saw over $47 million awarded throughout the three-week tournament series, a strong number considering it was the first WCOOP where US players were not allowed to participate. The $47 million in prize-money was down from the 2010 numbers that saw a record $63 million handed out to PokerStars players –but this was of course the before and after effect of Black Friday. I would expect the 2012 running to approach if not surpass the 2011 number as the PokerStars WCOOP always seems to over-perform.
Once again the WCOOP will award a huge prize-package for the Player of the Series winner, with the player accumulating the most WCOOP points receiving a Champion’s trophy and a customized chip set, a 2013 PCA prize package, 2013 EPT Monte Carlo Grand Final prize package, and 2013 TCOOP Main Event ticket.
