299 players head into Day 2 of EPT Grand Finale
After a disappointing turnout that saw attendance shrink from the 848 players who registered in 2010, all the way down to 686 players for the 2011 PokerStars EPT Grand Finale, the poker world (whether live or play poker online; in Europe or the United States) is definitely still stinging from the effects of Black Friday –how much the decision to move the EPT Grand Finale from Monaco to Madrid has had on the attendance is also a relevant question to ask.
With sites like Full Tilt Poker and Absolute/UB Poker yet to return US players funds –and the definite possibility that UB and AP poker will not be returning ANY player funds—not to mention the huge swaths of US poker players who are now without any source of income, it was a foregone conclusion that attendance numbers at live tournaments would be on the decline, but few predicted a 20% drop at the most prestigious European Poker Tournament in the world.
With a number of top pros still in the field of 299 players that managed to survive their Day 1 flight it’s still anyone’s tournament to win, but quite a few players have jumped out to terrific starts including the following 10 players who head up the leader-board entering Day 2 at the EPT Grand Final in Madrid:
1. David Sonelin — 260,000
2. Ben Wilinofsky — 235,000
3. Alex Gomes — 200,000
4. Ole Kristian Nergard — 198,200
5. Ivan Demidov — 197,800
6. Mattias Bergstrom –188,000
7. Jean Noel Thorel — 180,300
8. Surinder Sunar — 179,200
9. Gerardo Godinez — 158,400
10. Andras Koroknai — 146,700
