438 players turn out for Day 1a of EPT San Remo

It’s always difficult to speculate on how a tournament will do attendance-wise from Day 1a results –Day 1b is usually produces the much higher attendance number—but with just 438 players registering for Day 1a of the EPT San Remo tournament it doesn’t look like any records will fall this year.

Last year saw 585 entrants on Day 1a followed by 655 on Day 1b setting the tournament attendance record, and in 2009 578 players showed up for Day 1a when a then record 1,178 players entered the tournament.

It’s still unclear how many players were affected by the recent developments in online poker, which not only has seen US players basically shut-out of the market, but has also frozen a lot of players’ funds that they would have normally used to make the trip to San Remo.

At the end of Day 1a in San Remo just 211 of the original 438 player starting field remained; here is a look at the Top 10 chip counts from Day 1a of the EPT San Remo Main Event courtesy of PokerNews.com’s live reporting team:

2.    Marco Adams — 160,000
3.    Andrew Teng — 110,000
4.    Ramzi Jelassi — 100,000
5.    Mayu Roca — 100,000
6.    Max Heinzelmann — 95,000
7.    Kimmo Kurko — 90,000
8.    Simeon Naydenov — 89,000
9.    Sergio Castelluccio — 88,000
10.    Martins Adeniya — 82,000

Other notable players surviving Day 1a include: Kevin Vanersmissen, Fabrice Soulier, JP Kelly, Nicholas Levi, David “DocSands” Sands, Pieter de Korver, Russell “rdcrsn” Carson, Mickey “mement_mori” Petersen, Vitaly Lunkin, Galen Hall, and Antione Saout.
