After 35 WSOP tournaments women still shutout

This was supposed to be the year of the woman at the World Series of Poker, but despite a number of strong showings and deep runs the ladies have failed to seal the deal through 35 tournaments. A strong female showing at the 2010 WSOP would have likely caused a mini-boom in the poker world, since women were coming into the WSOP riding high, with 3 Major Tournament wins in 2010 already.

* Vanessa Selbst won the NAPT Mohegan Sun Main Event
* Liv Boeree won the EPT Monaco title
* Annie Duke won the NBC National Heads-Up Poker Championship

There is still a lot of poker to be played, and it’s conceivable that the ladies could still take down a couple of WSOP bracelets, but it would seem that unless these bracelets are in televised events it may be for naught. It would have taken a three-bracelet performance from the women to gain some exposure and create headlines for women poker players, but thus far the biggest female angle coming out of the 2010 WSOP has been the flap over men entering the Ladies Tournament.

If we are going to attract more women to poker they need to see women at these televised final tables, and women winning a few as well.
