Alexander Kostritsyn’s sick run in PokerStars SCOOP series
We are all aware of Alexander Kostritsyn’s resume when it comes to poker; whether it’s his nearly $3 million in live tournament earnings, or the millions the young poker pro from Russia has made at the Full Tilt Poker and PokerStars tables, nobody questions his ability to dominate the game. But nobody could have predicted the run Kostritsyn is on during the current SCOOP tournament series taking place at PokerStars.
In a span of six SCOOP tournaments Kostritsyn has made four final tables, with three 2nd place finishes and one 3rd place finish! On top of that Kostritsyn, who plays under the screen-name “Joiso” at PokerStars finished in 24th place in a fifth tournament giving him five cashes in his last six tournaments. Kotritsyn finished as the bridesmaid in two consecutive SCOOP tournaments:
· Event #10: High buy-in $3,150 Stud
· Event #11: High buy-in $2,100 PLO Heads-Up tournament
Making his third final table in as many tournaments, Kostritsyn would finish 3rd in Event #12, a $2,600 NL Hold’em Knock-out tournament, but the 3rd place finish would mark his biggest cash of his miraculous run, worth $62,602.
In Event #13 Kostritsyn would cash for the fourth consecutive tournament, this time a little bit shy of the final table in 24th place in the $1,575 NL Hold’em Antes up tournament.
Kostritsyn weaved his way back to the final table in Event #14, once again finishing in second place, in the $5,200 FL Omaha Hi/Lo tournament –although it should be noted that only 28 players registered for the tournaments.
In total the Russian poker pro has banked over $100,000 in winnings during the 2011 SCOOP tournament series thus far, and is well on his way to the Player of the Series award.
