Annette Obrestad wins EPT £5k Heads-Up tourney
The big news thus far out of the Hilton Metropole in London, England was Annette Obrestad cruising to victory in the £5,000 No limit Holdem Heads-Up tournament. Obrestad was among the 64 big-name poker players who registered for the event, and will walk away with a £120,000 in prize-money for the win.
The tournament was played in a Best-of-3 format, with the final match Best-of-5. Because of the added matches the tournament was spaced out over two full days –Obrestad needed to play just 16 heads-up matches against her 6 opponents on her route to victory.
Two other preliminary tournaments at the 2010 European Poker Tour London stop were also in action at the time of writing:
In the £2,000 European 8-Game Championship it will be Chris Bjorin taking on Tim Finne in heads-up play –Team PokerStars pro Jason Mercier finished in 3rd place. Bjorin is fresh off back-to-back final tables at the World Series of Poker Europe, and has to be considered one of the hottest players in poker at the moment.
In the £1,000 No limit Holdem Tournament EPT Vilmoura champion Toby Lewis found himself in heads-up play against Manig Loser, and was able to close out the tournament and pick up a nice £55,000 score just before the Main Event.
