After record-setting fields in many preliminary tournaments, and no significant decreases in attendance numbers, we’ve seen two straight days of small turnouts for the 2011 World Series of Poker Main Event; our first clear indicator that Black Friday will have some effect on the WSOP.

Here is a look at the Day 1b numbers historically:

* 2010 = 1,489

* 2009 = 873 (took place on July 4th)

* 2008 = 1,158

* 2007 = 1,545

And here is how Day 1b of the 2011 WSOP compares:

* 2011 = 985

With a total of 1,882 entrants over the first two starting days, it would seem the best the 2011 WSOP Main Event could hope for is a repeat of the 2009 WSOP which after attracting 1,989 entrants over the first two days saw 4,505 enter on Days 1c and 1d –not to mention the few hundred who were turned away on Day 1d for lack of space.

While officials fretted over attendance numbers, players were busy playing poker, and a familiar name ended up at the top of the leader-board on Day 1b, WSOP Player of the Year contender Ben Lamb. Lamb ended the day with 188,925 chips. Here is a look at the Top 10 chip counts from Day 1b of the WSOP Main Event:

1. Ben Lamb – 188,925

2. Andrew Hinrichsen – 175,450

3. Edwin Kim – 160,000

4. Javier Martinez – 156,250

5. Guillermo Ramirez – 152,600

6. Arnaud Esquevin – 148,250

7. Edward Yee – 139,725

8. Kevin Saul – 130,650

9. Ryan D’Angelo – 128,000

10. Chris Way – 121,000
