The World Poker Tour (WPT) is set to finish Season XVI on a strong note by hosting its WPT Tournament of Champions (TOC) in May 2018 at the popular ARIA Resort & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada. The WPT confirmed this week that the TOC will be filmed and broadcasted on FSN as part of its Season XVI programming.

WPT Tournament of Champions

The WPT ran a flagship event from Season 1 to Season VIII known as the WPT Championship which saw the best poker players in the world compete for a grand prize. The WPT then decided to rename its flagship event to WPT World Championship which ran from Season IX to Season XIII. This flagship event of the WPT started out as a $25,000 buy-in event and ran at the Bellagio for a number of years. The WPT decided to switch over to the Borgata for Season XII and Season XIII and also decided to lower the buy-in to $15,000 + $400.

The WPT decided to make more changes in 2015 and decided to completely revamp the event and called it WPT Tournament of Champions and host it at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel& Casino in Hollywood, Florida for Season XIV and Season XV. The WPT decided to open the TOC to only previous WPT Champions.

The first ever TOC was won by Farid Yachou who became the first ever ‘champion of champions’ and received $381,600 in prize money and a 2016 Corvette. The 2017 TOC was won by Daniel Weinman who received $318,500 in prize money along with a brand new 2018 Audi S5 Coupe.

The same exclusive format will be followed for the WPT TOC that takes place at the Aria Resort & Casino. Only WPT Champion club members will be eligible to take part and can buy-in directly while current WPT XVI Main Tour Main Event winners will receive automatic entry into the season ending TOC. These Main Event winners get a free package that includes their airfare and hotel accommodation. You will feel like one of those big winners who hit the jackpot on one of the big online casinos.

Aria Resort& Casino To Host TOC

The WPT has once again experimented with changing the venue for the TOC. This time around the WPT has chosen the Aria Resort & Casino and it does not come entirely as a surprise as the WPT and Aria have hosted a number of successful events over the years. The two have partnered over the last four years and have seen over 16,000 player registrations and $8.1 million in tournament prize money distributed.

Adam Pliska, the CEO of the WPT said that the company was happy to host its flagship WPT TOC at the Aria and expected a great season ending event in Las Vegas. Pliska pointed out that the WPT had its beginnings in Las Vegas and it would be a great accomplishment for a very successful Season XVI to wind up in Las Vegas.  The WPT will release more information regarding its 2018 TOC at the Aria in the coming months.
