Barcelona challenging all-time EPT attendance record

EPTThe PokerStars European Poker Tour (EPT) has stopped in the Spanish city of Barcelona in every one of its 10 seasons, and every single time it has been one of the best-attended stops on the EPT tour. This year was no different, as the EPT Barcelona Main E vent shattered its previous attendance record (set last year) by nearly 150 players, as 1,230 players are registered for the tournament with the number still climbing – registration is still open until the start of Day 2.

Here is a look at the attendance numbers for the EPT Barcelona Main Event through the years as well as the past winners of the tournament from Wikipedia.org:

* 2004 (Season 1): 229 entries, winner Alexander Stevic

* 2005 (Season 2): 327 entries, winner Jan Boubli

* 2006 (Season 3): 480 entries, winner Bjorn-Erik Glenn

* 2007 (Season 4): 543 entries, winner Sander Lyloff

* 2008 (Season 5): 619 entries, winner Sebastian Ruthenberg

* 2009 (Season 6): 479 entries, winner Carter Phillips

* 2010 (Season 7): 758 entries, winner Kent Lundmark

* 2011 (Season 8): 811 entries, winner Martin Schleich

* 2012 (Season 9): 1,082 entries, winner Mikalai Pobal

The all-time PokerStars EPT record (excluding the PCA) is 1,240, a record that could fall on the first stop of the historic 10th Season of the EPT. Day 2 will begin with over 700 of the starting field still in the hunt for the title. There aren’t too many big names at the top of the leader-board but some of the biggest names in poker are still alive and kicking in the tournament.

Once registration is officially closed and the attendance numbers tallied we should have some prize-pool information to pass on. Needless to say, the winner of the tournament will earn well over €1,000,000 for their victory.
