Brits continue to dominate at WSOP
At the 2010 World Series of Poker it seemed like every tournament was being won by a British poker player (5 in reality, plus 2 more at the WSOP Europe) and through eight completed events on the 2011 WSOP schedule the Brits have already captured two bracelets.
The first bracelet won by a UK poker player was in the $25k Heads-Up Championship, with 22 year-old Jake Cody taking home his first WSOP bracelet and completing Poker’s Triple Crown in the process.
Cody was joined on Monday by Matt Perrins who won the $1,500 2-7 Lowball tournament, which according to Perrins was his first ever foray in a 2-7 Draw game! The WSOP website quoted Perrins as saying he learned the game by watching a 30-minute instructional video on YouTube prior to the event, and that in the early stages he really had no idea what he was doing –apparently the old adage of “A minute to learn and a lifetime to master” doesn’t hold true when it comes to 2-7 Lowball!
Although it’s one of the smallest WSOP tournaments in terms of prize-pool and entrants, the 2-7 Lowball tournament draws a very pro heavy field since most people –Perrins excluded—skip the event for a format they are more familiar with. Here is a look at the final table payouts from the 2-7 Lowball tournament:
1. Matt Perrins – $102,105
2. Chris Bjorin – $63,112
3. Robin Rightmire – $41,643
4. Bernard Lee – $28,422
5. Thomas Fuller- $19,906
6. Josh Brikis – $14,296
7. Jason Mercier – $10,524
