Classic heads-up poker duel decides EPT London Championship

After four quick eliminations to begin the final day of the PokerStars European Poker Tour London tournament, the action slowed down considerably as the remaining players were extremely deep-stacked for this point in a major poker tournament.

In the end it was poker superstar and Team Full Tilt pro John Juanda holding a commanding chip-lead over the young British player David Vamplew. Juanda chopped and chopped at the youngster, who held his ground, fought back, and of course got lucky when he needed to! At two points Vamplew faced a 3-to-1 chip disadvantage but was able to claw his way back to even before finally putting Juanda away.

The key hand came with Juanda and Vamplew all-in after the turn, Juanda holding the nut-straight, Vamplew holding an Ace-high flush-draw and three outs to a split pot. The river saw Vamplew’s flush draw come in, and from there he continued to chip-up, eventually wearing down a frustrated Juanda.

Here is a look at how the final 8 players finished at the EPT London Championship:

1.    David Vamplew — £900,000
2.    John Juanda — £545,000
3.    Kyle Bowker — £300,000
4.    Artur Wasek   — £240,000
5.    Kayvan Payman — £190,000
6.    Fernando Brito — £145,000
7.    Tom Marchese  — £100,000
8.    Per Ummer — £66,800
