EPT Copenhagen enters Day 2 with O’Dwyer on top
After a disappointing turnout on Day 1a of the European Poker Tour’s Season 8 stop in Copenhagen (where a mere 83 players registered for the DKK37,275 (€5,000) buy-in tournament) Day 1b saw over 200 players register for the EPT Copenhagen Main Event, bringing the total number of entrants to a respectable 298.
The total attendance is still a very disappointing number for the EPT, considering 449 players registered for this same turnout last year. Just another indication that Black Friday’s grip has extended to the entire poker world, whether it’s an online poker player in the US or a major European live event.
Despite a field well over twice as large as Day 1a, the chip-leaders at the end of Day 1b were well behind the leaders from Day 1a, especially overall chip-leader Steve O’Dwyer who managed to accumulate just over 190,000 chips over the course of his Day 1 flight. O’Dwyer’s total dwarfed that of Day 1b chip-leader Mads Wissing, who ended with $127,000 chips.
Day 2 is now set to begin with 179 of the original starting field still in the running including some of the biggest names in the world of tournament poker. In addition to O’Dwyer and Wissing other notable players still in contention for the EPT Copenhagen title include Michael Tureniec, Johnny Lodden, Allan Baekke, Sam Chartier, Luca Pagano, Arnaud Mattern, Anton Wigg, Theo Jorgensen, Will Molson, Martin Staszko, Mickey Petersen, David Vamplew, Byron Kaverman, Juha Helppi, Pierre Neuville, and Melanie Weisner.
