Saturday was a big day at the PokerStars European Poker Tour (EPT) London tournament series, as two of the biggest events on the schedule came to a close with Jason Lavallee winning the £10k buy-in High Roller tournament while Robin Ylitalo captured the EPT London Main Event title.

Other than Australian Jeff Rossiter there weren’t too many recognizable names at the final table of the 2013 EPT London Main Event, but this is becoming more and more common in the world of poker as the skill gap between poker’s superstars and solid, winning players continues to shrink.

The £5,000 buy-in EPT London Main Event attracted a field of 604 players, including some of the biggest names in poker, but in the end it would all come down to two men with very sparse poker resumes: Sweden’s Robin Ylitalo (13 career cashes for about $375,000) and Greece’s Georgios Karakousis (five career cashes for about $150,000) according to their www.thehendonmob.com databases.

EPT London £10k High Roller

If the final table of the Main Event was lacking in star-power the High Roller tournament at the EPT London series more than made up for it, with some of the biggest names in poker making the final eight, beginning with former Player of the Year Sorel Mizzi, as well as UK poker legend David “Devilfish” Uliott. Joining them at the final table was Italian poker pro Luca Pagano, UK pro Mark Teltscher, as well as longtime tournament grinder, Canadian Jason Lavallee, who has had a number of near-misses in major tournaments over the course of his career.

But this time the day would belong to Lavalleee, who dominated the play at the final table. After finally breaking through with a major tournament victory Lavallee exclaimed, “So this is what it feels like to win a tournament!” Yes Jason, and we all expect a few more wins from you down the road.
