EPT San Remo continues to be one of the most popular poker tourna
The European Poker Tour stop in San Remo Italy seems to break its own European attendance record each year, with this year’s field topping out at a massive 1,240 players (62 better than last year’s mark). Perhaps the idea of Italy in mid-April adds to the appeal of the poker tournament!
The San Remo event combines everything poker players could ask for in a poker tournament: beautiful location; major televised tournament; huge turnouts which creates a huge prize-pool; and as part of the PokerStars EPT campaign the tournament attracts a number of online qualifiers (who the pros view as dead-money.
After two days of play (Day 1a and Day 1b) a number of poker’s elite sit near the top of the leader-board, including Bertrand “ElkY” Grosspieller and his 232,200 chips which are good enough to place him in 2nd place overall, just behind chip-leader Michael Eerhart and his 247,800 chips.
620 players will retake the felt at Noon on Saturday, with the blinds at 600/1,200 and a 100 hip ante. Other big names alive and kicking with 6-figure stacks are Chris Bjorin, Jason Mercier, and Isabelle Mercier. However, with such a large field, and many strong players still remaining virtually anything can, and likely will, happen.
