ESPN announces 2012 WSOP television schedule
There was a lot of 2012 World Series of Poker news announced on Tuesday. Not only did we have the media conference call where we learned about the rules changes and attendance expectations, as well as WSOP officials clarifying and answering a number of other questions, but ESPN also released their television schedule for the 2012 WSOP on Tuesday.
The 2012 television schedule will see only three events broadcast on ESPN, the World Series of Poker main event, the Big One for OneDrop $1,000,000 buy-in tournament, and the World Series of Poker Circuit Series National Championship. Not on the schedule are prestigious events like the $50k Players Championship, or any of the other preliminary events at the 2012 WSOP.
A total of 15 episodes will be aired on ESPN this summer, with two events using the live stream incorporated for last year’s Main Event final table. The WSOP Main Event will be the focal point as usual, taking up 12 of the 15 episodes ESPN will air; an even heavier emphasis than in years past.
Once again the commentary for the WSOP will be handled by Norman Chad and Lon McEachern, with Kara Scott handling interviews and commentary on the sidelines. There is no word yet if the duo will be joined by a third commentator –last year Antonio Esfandiari worked beautifully with Chad and McEachern during the live final table coverage.
The ESPN coverage will kick-off with a live-feed of the Big One for OneDrop final table (which will be shown on a 15-minute delay) on July 3rd; ESPN will then have a four week break before kicking off their weekly Tuesday-night coverage on ESPN. Here is a look at the complete television schedule for the 2012 WSOP on ESPN:
