Galfond tearing up online poker after Canadian move

It’s safe to say that Phil Galfond made the right decision by moving to Canada in order to continue his online poker career, and if he continues on the torrid pace he has been on during August he may just have enough money set aside to buy a Canadian version of his infamous NYC Condo Slide!

Since moving to Canada, Galfond has been cleaning up on the PokerStars high-stakes tables, despite starting off in the red –most likely as he worked the rust off his online poker game. Galfond booked an impressive $452,000 win this past weekend, doing most of his damage against Viktor “Isildur1” Blom, who was basically taking money from the other high-stakes regulars, and then promptly losing it to Galfond.

Galfond took to his blog at BlueFire Poker to explain his recent success, which has seen him profit by over $1 million since his move north:

“I’ve been in full grind mode since I’ve gotten set up in Vancouver. Some might say I should go out and experience the city, but those people don’t understand how much I enjoy being inside and playing poker… I’ve been running pretty hot, which has been a nice comeback to online poker. I actually think this is the first period of time I’ve run well above EV since at least a couple of years ago,”

With his recent upswing, Galfond has now moved into the #3 spot on the highstakesdb.com list of the most profitable online poker players of all time with nearly $8 million in winnings. Galfond jumped over Di “Urindanger” Dang but is still far behind both Patrik Antonius (nearly $12 million) and Phil Ivey (over $19 million).
