Gruissem wins second straight EPT High-Roller tournament
With Phillip Gruissem winning his second straight EPT High-Roller tournament (Gruissem won the EPT Barcelona High-Roller in August) as well as a 28th place finish in the World Series of Poker Main Event in July, it looks as if we may be watching one of poker’s up-and-coming players come of age. You’ll also have the answer to a poker quiz question to boot!
The final table was a lengthy affair, thanks in part to three separate negotiations when the tournament was down to four players, three players, and during heads-up play (a deal was made four-handed and three-handed, but the two heads-up combatants were unable to alter the deal further.
The players sitting at the final table were likely relieved when two of the most accomplished players, Swedish poker pro Michael Tureniec and Team Titan Poker Pro Sam Trickett, were the first two eliminated, but as with any High-Roller tournament there are very few “soft” seats.
Gruissem’s win gave the German’s a clean sweep in the EPT London Main Event and High-Roller tournament, as his fellow countryman Benny Spindler captured the EPT London Main Event title.
Here is a look at the final table payouts after the deals were made:
